FILM I, II & III
Film I: Foundations of Filmmaking
Film 1 introduces students to the art and craft of storytelling through motion pictures. This course covers the fundamentals of film production, including camera operation, cinematography, scriptwriting, directing, and editing. Students gain practical experience with industry-standard equipment and software as they create short films that develop both technical skill and creative vision.
Emphasis is placed on collaboration and the filmmaking process, from concept development to final cut. Students learn how to analyze film as a medium of communication, exploring how stories influence culture and worldview. Faith integration encourages students to evaluate the power of media and to create films that reflect biblical truth, inspire audiences, and glorify God.
By the end of the course, students will have produced original short film projects and built a foundational portfolio that demonstrates their growth as storytellers and visual communicators.
Film II: Advanced Filmmaking & Storytelling
Film 2 builds on the foundational skills from Film 1, challenging students to refine their technical ability and develop a stronger creative voice. Students dive deeper into advanced cinematography, lighting, sound design, and post-production while also exploring specialized roles such as directing, producing, and editing.
Projects emphasize collaborative, large-scale productions where students take on leadership responsibilities and work in teams on Studio 70's professional film set. Script development and narrative structure are studied in greater depth, encouraging students to craft compelling stories that engage audiences both emotionally and spiritually.
Through critical analysis and hands-on practice, students consider the influence of film on culture and learn how to create media that reflects truth, inspires hope, and glorifies God. By the end of the course, students will have produced more polished, high-quality short films suitable for festivals, showcases, or inclusion in their growing portfolios.
Film III: Mastery & Portfolio Development
Film 3 is a capstone course designed for advanced students ready to pursue mastery in filmmaking. Students lead major productions from concept to final screening, taking on professional-level responsibilities in directing, cinematography, producing, editing, or visual effects.
Leveraging Studio 70’s world-class virtual production stages, students craft ambitious projects that combine traditional filmmaking with LED walls, live animated environments, and real-time motion tracking integration. These spaces—including the 570 sq ft mini stage and the 1500 sq ft main stage—give students the opportunity to experiment with techniques used by industry leaders, preparing them for professional careers or higher education in film and media.
The course emphasizes independent projects and portfolio development, ensuring students graduate with a body of work that showcases both technical mastery and creative leadership. Faith integration remains central, challenging students to tell stories with cultural impact and eternal significance.
