JOURNALISM

Journalism II & III – Elementary Yearbook

Journalism II and III students make up the staff responsible for creating The King’s Academy Elementary Yearbook. Under the guidance of the Yearbook Advisor, students gain hands-on experience in photography, layout design, page assembly, and journalistic writing. Using Jostens Layout Pro on the Yearbook Avenue platform, students collaboratively design and publish a yearbook that captures the year’s most memorable moments.

Staff members are also responsible for photographing school events for inclusion in the yearbook and other school-wide publications, including the website. Because of the professional nature of the class, all positions are filled by application and approval from the Advisor and editors. Once accepted, students are expected to fully commit and may only drop the course due to scheduling conflicts.

This is a year-long course that provides valuable experience in publishing, teamwork, and communication, while giving students the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the school community.

Journalism VI Honors – Middle & High School Yearbook

Journalism VI Honors is designed for students who have advanced through prior yearbook experience and are selected to serve on the Sceptre Editorial Board. In addition to the foundational skills of photography, design, and writing, these students take on editorial leadership roles—overseeing theme selection, design concepts, layout organization, and production deadlines.

Editorial staff members are also responsible for major creative and leadership decisions such as choosing the yearbook dedication recipient, maintaining consistent visual identity throughout the book, and ensuring the timely submission of pages to Jostens. Students collaborate closely with the Yearbook Advisor but are entrusted with significant creative authority and management responsibilities.

Because of the demanding and professional nature of the course, students must be accepted by application and recommendation. This is a year-long course that equips students with real-world editorial, leadership, and project management experience.
